UFC 130

Would have made a post over the Weekend about UFC 130 but once again I was quite ill and had to watch the bloody thing on my laptop rather than go down to the pub (bar for our American friends) with a few mates. Regardless here is my breakdown of the main card fights:

Rampage Vs Hamill:
To be honest my internet had a hissy fit before the fight so I missed almost all of it. From what was actually seen and from some of the highlights it went down exactly as I would expect. Hamill shot for takedowns, Rampage stuff them. End of story. Like Rampage said after the fight, did you not know he was also a wrestler Hamill? Not one takedown. Hamill did try some effective leg kicks (see Griffin Vs Rampage as to why they work) but did not keep it up.

Next up for Hamill: Someone at his own skill level...maybe even a drop to middle weight...he looked small compared to Rampage and dropping weight is all the rage these days
Next up for Rampage: Title shot? Maybe, Rampage Vs Jones is more marketable than Rashad. Have to see when Jones wants to come back.

Mir Vs Nelson:
If you haven't noticed I have got a bit of a man crush on Big Country but the People's Champ (as described by Goldie) looked terrible. I'm not a big Mir fan but he dominated Nelson for a big decsion win. Nelson looked good in the first few minutes pressing against Mir trying to push his cardio but it was to no avail. Oh well...

Next for Nelson: He has had two top contenders in a row and lost. Probably looking at the loser of Kongo Vs Barry or Mittrone Vs Morecraft, maybe even Russow in a battle of the bellies.
Next for Mir: Winner of Nog Vs Schaub, title shot implications there...

Struve Vs Browne:
Browne does not need to leap over the tallest skyscrapers, he just superman punches his way through them. I had Struve in this one but it looks like if you get in close with Struve his long limbs are no good to him.

Next for Brown: Winner of Barry Vs Kongo
Next for Struve: Talk about him Vs Cro Cop...sweet.

Jorge Santiago Vs Brian Stann:
Didn't see this one working like this. Like all fightes coming from Japan, Jorge struggled and got punished by a sharp looking Stann. It will take some time getting used to cage, but Jorge will be back.

Next for Stann: Hopefully the winner Wandy Vs Leben or another up and comer. Maybe Botesch, who looked good.
Next for Santiago: A gatekeeper, Dollaway or Grove.

Rick Story Vs Tiago Alves:
Big win for story against a legit contender. Alves looked good in the last round but you need to win two rounds to win. Perfect example of imposing your gameplan on your opponent.

Next for Story: Winner of Condit Vs Stun Gun or maybe Ellenberger...one of these guys will be marketed as the next big thing to challenge GSP.

So your thoughts...?

Future plans

Thanks for the massive support!!! I've been pretty ill lately and haven't made it to training in awhile... :(

Many comments were made regarding the belly and in particular it's hairyness (yeah, it's not a word...). I think if we reach 500 followers I'll end up waxing it for shits and giggles and post pictures for your enjoyment. Maybe I'll wax it like this...

 Thoughts?

I'm back and 100 followers!!!

Well had a bit of a break from everything over the past few days due falling ill and not being to do much apart from moan about how sick I am and play L.A. Noire (which is amazing if you did not know), so it was quite the shock to come back and find we have hit over 100 followers!!

Congrats to everyone for following and I hope you are enjoying my journey as much I am. As a special treat for my first 100 followers, I present to you the gut! Please be warned that exposure to the gut can cause blindness and ecliptic fits. Enjoy!!

Time for a new post as we close in on 100 followers!

I want to share a bit about myself and see if anyone out there has similar attributes.

First off:
- I'm 6ft1 (reasonably tall, generally see over most crowds which is an advantage).
- I currently weight a hefty 110kgs (roughly 240 pounds...I think).
- I may possible have the largest head in Australia. This is not confirmed but it was recently announced that my head is dwarf planet in the same category as Pluto.
- I have a hairy chest and a round belly.

I hope that offers an interesting insight to me, I may post pictures if I get over my stage fright or if I can find a camera with a wide enough lens to fit my head in.

p.s for those of you interested, when I started this blog I was 115kgs, so I'm making a bit of progress :D Also comment if you have a abnormally large head.

Back to the gut.

Well I have been away for a few days, done in Tasmania for work (Google it if you don't know where it is) and while there I missed out on two training sessions. While there I have to eat out all the time due to fact I have no time to prepare meals. I have come to realisation that while at home and away I really need to eat better and train harder. The following is what I plan on doing.

- No sugar or sugar filled product. I already don't drink soft drink (soda) but all other sugar related snacks need to be cut out
- Make a habit of walking every day. At least 20 to 30 mins.
- Increase my Martial Arts training. Currently 2 nights a week, I want to add another class or fitness class.
- Don't over eat.
- Keep an eye on my weight.
- Have an exercise routine while on the road.

I am a relatively fit guy for my size, but I want to look good too. Well that's the plan at least!

Comments and advice much appreciated!

Boxing: One fight away from the mainstream or downstream?

Well there we have it. As expected Manny demolished a disinterested Shane Mosley, who appeared to be there to cash in a rater large cheque (5 Mil, pretty nice for a game of dodge fist).

Shane (nicked named Shame in some circles) was a complete disappointment and now our attention turns to the only fight left worth watching:

Pacquiao vs Mayweather, and for a minute it looked like it would happen. Pacman agreed to the drug testing stipulations set by Mayweather and a massive purse (something like $50mil!) but at the last moment Mayweather backed out.

My question is, is this the only fight left for boxing? Can it bring it back from the brink of obscurity? Or is the prolonged delay the final death bell for boxing. Currently, as combat sports fans, we are spoiled for choice and I for one rather be watching fantastic MMA fights than waiting for this fight.

What are your opinions?

Boxing: Manny Pacquiao and 'Sugar' Shane Mosley Fight today.

A little off topic but bridges into something I will discuss later on: Boxing.

Probably the biggest fight in years, Pacman vs Mosley is set to rake in millions for each fighter but it's not the fight people want to see. That is of course Pacquiao v Mayweather.

This match is going to be huge regardless, but is it relevant? An aging Mosley is likely no match for the Pacman and no one sees him losing, so probably not. The only relevant fight now appears to be Pacquiao v Mayweather and it just doesn't look like it will happen, and the problem is, this appears to be the only relevant fight in boxing at the moment.

I'm not saying boxing is in slow death spiral, but if the matching making stays in entrenched in money over competitiveness, there will be a gradually shift to MMA for combat sports fans.

Regardless, still looking forward to it. Go Pacman!!!

Top 5 Big Guys in MMA today.

I'd like to look at some of the guys I admire. Starting at number 5, we have:

Mike Russow:

Stats: http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Mike-Russow-20552

About:
Nick named 'lava lamp' by some fans, Mike is a patrol officer for the Chicago Police Department (I'm not American, but I know that place is a bit rough) has been in the fight game for good 13 years. In that time he has only lost once (via armbar to Sergei Kharitonov).

He was on his way to losing for the second time against Todd Duffee (built like Hercules and fights like him too, except no hair...) being on the brutal end of stiff jabs and brutal crosses but then this happened:

One punch (which broke his arm by the way). He followed up with what can only be described as a brutal hammerfist to the face.

This most unlikely of knockouts got him the knockout of the night bonus ($69k...nice) and the admiration of many new fans.

Despite his appearance, he has great cardio, excellent wrestling and BJJ and an iron chin. He recently TKO Jon Madsen (pretty decent up and coming fighter out of Brock Lesnar's Camp) and currently is not scheduled to face anyone. I for one would like to see him and Ben Rothwell slug it out.

I don't think he will win the UFC belt anytime soon, but he will be a stern test for anyone in the HW division, that's why he ranks at number 5.

Training aftermath

Quick update:
Last night we did nothing but kata (essential dancing with a punching in the face vibe).

Currently, I'm walking around like I'm entering an old western saloon :(

...p.s. ouch

Training tonight!

First training tonight in a little tonight. Things I am not looking forward to doing:

> Kicks (I have a habit of falling over when I am not practicing)
> Kata - its like dancing, but just imagine you're punching someone in the face.
> Horse riding stances - looks like it sounds, but your not riding an actual horse. Plus it hurts guys that are top heavy. Alot.

I'll let you know how I go :D

p.s. hope to make some design changes soon, just very busy with study, eating and training (not in that order generally).

Welcome!!!

Well I currently have no followers but welcome anyway!!! This is my first post of many with updates of my progress (and gut level) to follow! Might be some pictures too!

Thanks ^.^
